How to cross subscribe Laconi.ca services
Laconi.ca supports federation, allowing for subscriptions to microblog feeds on different domains. So I decided to give it a try. Of course I have an identi.ca account, but I needed another domain. So I installed laconi.ca on my own server… whojusttweeted.com. What follows are the seven steps necessary to subscribe to an identi.ca feed from whojusttweeted.com.
- Login to whojusttweeted.com (create an account if necessary)
- Copy your profile url to your clipboard (it should look something like http://whojusttweeted.com/jay2)
- Go to identi.ca. Logout if logged in.
- Find a user you want to follow (e.g. http://identi.ca/dave). Click subscribe.
- Paste your profile url into the “Profile URL” box. Leave the “User nickname” alone. Click subscribe.
- You should see a page titled “Authorize subscription”. Click accept.
- Go back to your profile page on whojusttweeted.com and reload. You should see the identi.ca profile in your subscriptions.
The result is very cool but a tad painful. The problem is that you likely have a login to a laconi.ca based site you are visiting. If this is the case and you are logged in, you are not given the option for a remote subscription. However, this is a great first step.
